Series background & context

The Bec Whitfield Mystery series follows Detective Bec Whitfield as she investigates crimes in Far North Queensland. Bec is a policewoman returning to a region shaped by remote towns, tropical weather, tourism and tight communities where a rumour can become dangerous fast.

In Bowen River, Bec takes a transfer to her hometown while dealing with a strained relationship with her father and a controlling partner. A local woman's disappearance draws her into a case involving the Delaney family, old lies and a past that reaches across generations.

Paradise can hide a lot.

Later investigations move through places such as Dunk Island and Mission Beach, where missing people, suspicious deaths, corruption and storm conditions create mounting pressure. Bec works with fellow detectives while trying to keep her personal life from clouding the evidence.

The mysteries balance procedural investigation with Bec's emotional journey. She is capable and determined, but she has blind spots, family wounds and relationships that complicate the job. The Queensland landscape is not decorative, it can affect access, safety and what people are willing to reveal.

Read in order to follow Bec's changing partnerships and personal story. Each book presents a central case with its own mystery and resolution.

This series is for readers who like Australian crime fiction with a strong setting, steady investigation and personal stakes.
