Anna Banks is a Florida writer whose books mix romance, humor, family pressure, and high-stakes fantasy. She was born and grew up in Niceville, Florida, a place with a name so cheerful that it has become part of her own author story.

She liked writing early. In high school, Banks was known for her English skills and even wrote classmates' term papers for extra prom money. It was a practical little side hustle, and a sign that she already enjoyed shaping words for an audience.

After high school, she married, became a mother, and worked at a bank while also waitressing in the evenings. The schedule was busy, and she wanted more time with her daughter. Leaving the restaurant job gave her room to return to something she had missed, reading for fun.

A read through Stephenie Meyer's Twilight books gave Banks the push to try writing a novel herself. She began working toward publication while still holding her bank job, then eventually made writing her full-time work.

Her early breakthrough came with the underwater fantasy world of The Syrena Legacy. The series begins with Of Poseidon, followed by Of Triton and Of Neptune. Of Triton reached the New York Times bestseller list, and the trilogy introduced readers to Banks's favorite mix of danger, banter, and complicated romance.

In those books, human and Syrena worlds keep colliding. Emma, a girl with an unexpected connection to the sea, meets Galen, a prince with a serious mission and very little practice at ordinary human life. Readers who enjoy merfolk stories, beach settings, secret identities, and sharp back-and-forth dialogue will find a lot to like there.

Banks has also moved comfortably between genres. Joyride is a contemporary young adult story about Carly Vega and Arden Moss, two teenagers carrying very different family burdens. The Nemesis duology, made up of Nemesis and Ally, shifts to rival kingdoms, plague, political pressure, and the uneasy relationship between Princess Sepora and King Tarik. Her adult romantic comedies, including How to Lose a Bachelor and The Cinderella Reversal, lean into awkward circumstances, second chances, and people discovering that their carefully arranged plans aren't working.

She has written adult science-fiction romance as Anna Scarlett, too. Her novel Degrees of Wrong was published under that name because her young adult publisher wanted to keep her adult work separate from her teen fiction.

Banks's stories often give their characters serious problems, but they leave room for jokes, crushes, stubborn choices, and people who don't always say what they mean. She lives in Crestview, Florida, with her husband and daughter, not far from the Florida Panhandle settings and coastal feeling that helped shape some of her best-known work.
