Author bio
Amber Anthony is the shared pen name of Nancy Reynolds and Rusty Hough Bader. The partnership goes back to 2008, well before the novels arrived. They started out writing scripts, not books, and that background still shows in fiction that likes to move quickly and keep the stakes close at hand.
A shared love of British history helped set the whole thing in motion. After a long day touring Hampton Court in London, they started imagining an immortal from the Tudor era named Maxwell Older. That early spark turned into a genre short script, and the script went on to win at the Las Vegas Film Festival.
Then they kept going.
As they developed more scripts, they were coached by D.C. Fontana and Harry Werksman, both seasoned names from film and television. In time, the pair turned that screenwriting partnership toward fiction. They describe their work as paranormal, metaphysical, and contemporary romance, with magical realism folded into the mix. That sounds about right. Their books like danger, desire, strange turns, and people who are pushed hard enough to find out what they are made of.
The doorway into their paranormal world was Blood Rising, followed by Blood Emerald and Blood Dragon. Those books build a hidden society of vampires, mortal donors, old enemies, and romantic trouble, with Matt Brenner, Rick Hiatt, and Adam Lachlan at the center of the wider cast. Appetite for Blood goes back to the 1920s and acts as a prequel, showing how Matt, Rick, and Adam first formed the alliance that later grows into a larger empire. Readers who like interconnected casts and a paranormal setup with rules, loyalties, and consequences usually settle in quickly.
They did not stay in one lane.
With Roman's Revenge, the duo shifted into contemporary romantic suspense and proved they could trade vampires for cartel danger without losing pace. Roman's Rules and Roman's Return keep the heat and high stakes, but each one changes the emotional center. One leans into friendship, illness, and second chances. Another follows younger characters trying to balance ambition, family questions, and a threat that refuses to leave quietly. Across the series, the Roman books keep coming back to loyalty, rescue, and the idea that love can be both the complication and the thing that gets people through.
Their range shows up even more in the later books. Blood Fugue and Blood Legacy, under the Tales from the Gaoler banner, bring in memory loss, police work, Scottish castles, and a mood that is part mystery, part vampire romance. Becoming Gabriel moves to Baltimore and tells a grittier story about class difference, criminal pressure, and redemption. Arise, My Darling heads in a more metaphysical direction, with astral meetings, psychic gifts, and a serial killer plot. Even with all those shifts in subgenre, some habits stay the same. Their heroines are usually smart, quick on their feet, and hard to fool. Their heroes tend to arrive capable, protective, and a little too sure they can manage everything on their own.
Travel matters to their work. So does place. Their stories move through Los Angeles, Baltimore, Scotland, Texas, and Waikiki, and those settings usually do more than decorate the page. They shape the mood and the choices. These days, the team behind Amber Anthony still presents itself as a collaboration first. They travel, meet readers at events, and continue building out a catalog that ranges from new adult to seasoned romance. They are also connected with Central Ohio Fiction Writers. Two writers, one pen name, and a very steady instinct for pairing trouble with a love story.
