Blood Fugue opens with Harry VanAlt, a vampire whose memories of mortal life are slipping away along with much of his power. He is dangerous, but he is also off balance, which makes him more interesting than a standard immortal hero. When he rescues Dr. Lizbet Mitchell, a police profiler, from a rogue vampire, the story turns into a mix of attraction, investigation, and buried history. Visions from another life keep breaking through, and a long-hidden ceremony starts unlocking what Harry has lost.

The first book also plays with time in an appealing way. Harry is haunted by earlier centuries, but he also has unfinished business tied to 1951, so the romance never floats free of consequence. Lizbet is not just there to admire him. She brings a practical, questioning point of view that keeps the story grounded while the supernatural parts get weirder. That balance, one foot in real danger, one foot in the uncanny, is part of what gives the series its identity.

Blood Legacy takes the larger world to Scotland and changes the flavor without dropping the core setup. Isla Cathcart is trying to prove her family's claim to an ancient castle. Gerry McIntosh is a charming ally who just happens to be a vampire. Their romance has a lighter bantering edge than Blood Fugue, but the stakes are still real. Hidden identities, family history, business interests, and old supernatural tensions all crowd the same page.

The setting does a lot of work here.

A Scottish castle is not just a pretty backdrop. It pushes the series further toward Gothic romance, with inheritance questions, old wrongs, and the sense that the land itself remembers more than the living do. At the same time, Amber Anthony keeps the books readable and warm. These are not bleak horror novels. They are paranormal love stories with mystery built into the bones.

If you like romances that move between modern danger and long historical shadows, this series is a good fit. Expect vampires with complicated histories, capable women who ask hard questions, and stories that feel a little haunted even when they are being playful. It is a small series so far, but it has a distinct personality.
