Author bio

Amanda Forester came to historical romance after spending years in a very different world. She has a PhD in clinical psychology, a master's degree in theology, and experience as both a clinical researcher and a university instructor. Then she gave the stories in her head a place to go.

Her route into writing was personal. While her husband was deployed to Iraq for 14 months, she turned to historical romance for a little escape during a stressful time. The books she found were full of adventure, humor, and satisfying endings. Before long, she recognized something familiar in them: the kinds of stories she had been quietly imagining herself.

So she started writing them down.

Forester's first novel, The Highlander's Sword, launched her into fourteenth-century Scotland. It follows Lady Aila Graham, an heiress pushed into marriage with the battle-worn Padyn MacLaren while danger closes in around their clans. The book set the pattern for much of her work: practical heroines, difficult bargains, family loyalties, and plenty of outside trouble to make romance complicated.

She returned to that world in The Highlander's Heart and True Highland Spirit. Those books bring together an English countess on the run, a Highland laird with too many responsibilities, a sword-wielding clan woman, and a French knight with secrets of his own. Forester uses the unsettled politics of medieval Scotland as more than wallpaper. Her characters have to think about land, safety, alliances, and the people depending on them.

The danger is real, but there is room for teasing too.

Her later Highland books, including The Highlander's Bride and My Highland Rebel, keep that blend of travel, sieges, forced proximity, and stubborn people who don't quite follow the plans made for them. Arranged marriages show up often in her fiction, not as a shortcut, but as a pressure cooker. Two people may begin with duty, survival, or a family agreement, then have to work out whether trust and affection can grow from there.

Forester also writes Regency romance. The Marriage Mart books move to London drawing rooms, country house parties, and the rules of the marriage-minded ton. In A Wedding in Springtime, a laugh at the wrong moment threatens Eugenia Talbot's future. A Midsummer Bride introduces an American heiress whose scientific curiosity does not fit neatly into English society, while A Winter Wedding gives a matchmaker and a spy-catching duke a problem neither expected.

Her Daring Marriages novels add privateers, family secrets, kidnappings, and sea-going adventure to Regency courtship. Across both settings, readers can expect quick banter, capable women, men learning to listen, and romances that have to survive a few practical obstacles before the happy ending.

Forester has named Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer among the writers she loves, and the influence shows in her interest in humor, social rules, and complicated courtship. She also enjoys digging into historical details, including the less glamorous parts of the past, though she has joked that she usually leaves out the fleas.

She lives with her family in the Pacific Northwest, outside Tacoma, Washington. When she isn't sending fictional couples into trouble, she has mentioned enjoying camping, scrapbooking, chocolate, and the occasional zip-line.
