Alpha Goddess is a young adult fantasy series that brings Hindu mythology into a contemporary teen setting without losing the scale of the original divine conflict. The books move between ordinary school life and a much larger struggle involving gods, demons, prophecy, and a heroine who learns that being special is not the same thing as being ready.

Sera Caelum stands at the center of everything. In Alpha Goddess, she discovers that she is Lakshmi reborn, a human avatar tied to multiple realms and marked by both light and darkness. That revelation changes the shape of her life all at once. Her best friend Kyle is hiding secrets of his own, Devendra enters the picture with more knowledge than he should have, and Sera has to figure out who is telling the truth before the mortal world pays for her delay.

The second book, Dark Goddess, widens the frame. The danger is no longer just a single hidden threat but a larger break in the barrier between realms, with demons spilling into the mortal world and new divine players complicating everything. Sera and Kyle are still teenagers, but the scale of what they are asked to carry gets much bigger.

This is a gods-among-us story with homework, crushes, and apocalypse in the same week.

What makes the series work is the contrast between cosmic stakes and very human confusion. Sera has power, but she is also scared, angry, loyal, and often unsure whom to trust. Howard uses that uncertainty well. The mythology is important, but so are friendship, betrayal, first love, and the simple panic of realizing your life has been built around a secret.

If you like YA fantasy that mixes romance, divine politics, and end-of-the-world urgency, this series is worth a look. It is best read in order, because the second book builds directly on the first. Taken together, the two books give you a complete arc with a lot of action and a clear emotional spine.
