Author bio

Alana Delacroix writes paranormal romance from Toronto, Canada. Her books bring secret supernatural communities into a recognizable modern city, then add difficult loyalties, dangerous magic, and romances that have plenty to work through.

Before she wrote fiction, Delacroix studied archaeology and worked in the field. She has an archaeology degree and has described working on digs in southern Ontario, often ahead of new construction, as well as spending a summer on a project in Jordan. It was hands-on work, not just classroom history.

That background gives her a natural interest in the past and in the people shaped by it. Ancient duties, old enemies, buried truths, and the weight of history all show up in her paranormal stories.

The past has a way of refusing to stay buried.

Delacroix later moved into corporate communications, which she has called a more stable career. She also lives in a house full of books and enjoys exploring Toronto, particularly while looking for coffee shops and possible settings for a future story. Her public author notes also mention a fondness for true-crime, war, and horror podcasts.

Her first main series, The Masked Arcana, began with Masked Possession in 2017. The trilogy introduces the Masquerada, supernatural people who can change not only their faces but their whole personas. In the opening book, former reporter Caro Yeats is assigned to handle public relations for Eric Kelton, a powerful Masquerada whose shifting identities make trust a very complicated thing.

The later books widen that world. Masked Desire follows council security chief Michaela Chui and the exiled fey courtier Cormac Redoak as a murder investigation puts them in the middle of political danger. Masked Longing moves to vampire military leader Estelle LaMarche and Masquerada lieutenant Stephan Daker, with a looming war pressing in on both of them.

Secrets are part of the job description.

In 2019, Delacroix launched the Immortal Protectors world with Immortal Redemption. Its central couple is Cal Olin, a resurrected Aztec warrior, and Dr. Iliana Rogers, his sharp-tongued colleague at an organization that investigates wrongdoing. Delacroix has said she was drawn to the idea of a band of warriors drawn from different eras and places, while making room for women with their own important roles in the larger conflict.

Across these books, readers can expect romance mixed with mystery, supernatural politics, and characters who have good reasons to keep their defenses up. Delacroix remains based in Toronto with her family and cats, still using the city around her as fertile ground for paranormal complications.
