Series background & context
The Agents Irish and Whiskey series begins with FBI agent Aidan "Irish" Talley trying to return to work after a car crash takes both his partner and his husband. He is experienced, private, and carrying more grief than he knows how to name. His new partner is Jameson "Whiskey" Walker, a younger cyber agent who has admired Aidan from a distance and now has to earn his trust in the field.
Their first case involves a breach at a high-security biocontainment facility and the threat of a terrorist attack. It gives Aidan and Jamie no choice but to work closely, even while Aidan resists the possibility of another serious relationship. The books follow both the casework and the slower work of letting someone in after loss.
The danger doesn't stay neatly contained.
Single Malt, Cask Strength, and Barrel Proof form the core Aidan and Jamie trilogy. A terrorist named Renaud, buried secrets, undercover assignments, and personal betrayals carry from one installment to the next, so the first three books work best in order. The cases are high stakes, but the heart of the series is the partnership. Aidan and Jamie have different strengths, different instincts, and plenty of reasons to doubt themselves, yet they keep choosing to meet in the middle.
The series is set largely in the orbit of the FBI and the Talley family, with California locations playing an important role. It mixes investigations, hacking, tactical operations, and found-family scenes. Aidan and Jamie are not figuring out their sexualities. The tension comes from grief, professional pressure, trust, and the question of whether love can survive when danger keeps following them home.
Later books widen the circle. Tequila Sunrise is a holiday novella centered on former FBI leader Melissa Cruz and Danny Talley, whose private relationship becomes impossible to hide when a family ship is hijacked. Blended Whiskey is a wedding-weekend story for Aidan and Jamie, best saved until after the main books. Angel's Share returns to Aidan and Jamie as husbands facing a case tied to old wounds, family business, and the future they want together.
These people make a family out of showing up.
Expect romantic suspense with mature protagonists, an established couple who keeps working on their relationship, and a wider cast that matters. Start with Single Malt for the full emotional arc, then continue through the trilogy before moving to the novellas and Angel's Share. Readers who like FBI partners, capable heroes, slow-burn trust, and cases that hit close to home will find a lot to enjoy here.
