Series background & context

Redemption Inc. is a romantic suspense world built around people who have made mistakes, survived hard lives, and are looking for a route into something better. The series brings together bounty hunters, hackers, former spies, and found-family connections. In Layla Reyne's opening prequel novellas, the action starts before the larger team fully takes shape, with two couples finding love during jobs that quickly become more dangerous than expected.

The Accidental follows chef February Winters and Jax Dillon, a hacker who has been working undercover as a bartender in February's restaurant. February is trying to pull off a Valentine's Day service, while Jax is watching for a rogue spy. Their mutual attraction has been simmering quietly until a supposed critic turns out to be a threat and takes both February's reputation and Jax's safety hostage.

Nothing about this job stays simple.

The story blends restaurant life with shootouts, sabotage, and espionage. February is stubborn, ambitious, and determined to prove herself in the kitchen. Jax is secretive by necessity, but their undercover assignment becomes much harder to manage once real feelings get involved. The novella was originally published as Under the Table in the Accidentally Undercover shared series, so readers may encounter both titles for the same story.

The Bounty shifts to Theodore "Wags" Wagner, a burned-out former spy who accepts a lucrative job that seems like a clean way out of his old life. His task is straightforward: find the bounty, collect the money, and start over. But the bounty is Blaine, a younger hacker with a target on his back and an ability to make Wags rethink every part of the plan.

Their pursuit turns into a flight from the people who want Blaine harmed. Forced proximity and a one-bed situation add heat to a relationship already complicated by Wags's age, exhaustion, and desire for a fresh start. The novella is an M/M age-gap romance, while The Accidental is sapphic, establishing the series as a space for varied queer pairings within a connected action world.

Second chances need people willing to take them.

These prequels set up the tone of Redemption Inc.: capable but battered people, danger that brings hidden truths out, and romance that gives characters a reason to imagine a different future. Start with The Accidental for the earliest listed entry, then read The Bounty. Both are short enough to work as introductions, but together they show the mix of high-pressure jobs, practical competence, banter, and found-family possibility that defines the series.
