Author bio

A.G. Marshall writes fairy tale fantasy, but music runs through her story just as strongly as books do. She comes from a musical family, taught herself some piano as a child, and grew up in a small town where lessons were hard to get. Her grandmother Jan, a church pianist who played by ear and wrote praise songs, helped shape Marshall's love of the instrument.

She was a storyteller early.

At sleepovers, she would ask her cousins to pick random objects and then build a story around them on the spot. She has said she grew up in libraries and started writing as soon as she could hold a pencil, which fits neatly with the fairy tale obsession that would later show up in her fiction.

Music almost took over completely. Marshall started college as an English major because she wanted to write, then switched to music after deciding that a steady diet of gloomy literature classes was not for her. She kept writing anyway, mostly in private, while studying piano. Later, she earned a music degree from East Central University and a master's in music education, with an emphasis in piano pedagogy, from the University of Oklahoma.

She still teaches, composes, and writes. And yes, she really does publish in more than one lane.

Marshall has explained that she uses the name A.G. Marshall for fiction because she also publishes piano music as Angela Marshall and did not want readers and piano students mixing everything together. The pen name also gives her, in her words, a bit of a superhero identity.

Her novels show what she enjoys most: magic, adventure, humor, clean romance, and heroines who do not wait around to be rescued. Princess of Shadows drops a warrior named Lina into a world that thinks she is a princess and asks her to fake one role while secretly fighting goblins. Princess of Secrets follows spy princess Carina and a prince who becomes a talking frog, turning a mystery into a fast, funny quest. Princess of Mermaids widens the world with sea magic, shipwrecks, and a heroine who belongs to both land and water.

Then there is Princess of Roses, which leans into curses, debts, and a beastly prince, and the earlier Rook and Shadow, where Princess Salara joins forces with a thief while her kingdom faces raids and famine. Lady Alma and Alma and the Fairy show how much she likes connected worlds, side characters with their own weight, and the small choices that ripple into larger trouble. Even her outlier, Leveled Up Love, co-written with Tao Wong, keeps her taste for playful premises and romance intact.

Across her books, you see the same threads again and again. Secret identities. Fairy gifts with strings attached. Young women trying to claim real agency inside court politics, family pressure, and old magic. The stories are usually romances, but they are also mysteries, adventures, and sometimes a little offbeat in the best way.

When she is not writing, Marshall teaches piano, composes music, and keeps making room for the things she has long loved, including dancing and travel. Her work feels built from both halves of her life: the girl making up stories for her cousins, and the musician learning how much feeling can fit inside a few well chosen notes.
