A Curse of Blood

by Sadie Kincaid

2025

A Curse of Blood follows Rosa Capelli, a sharp-tongued vampire hunter whose life is upended when she’s forced to work with Luca da Firenze, a four-century-old enforcer for a vampire mafia clan she’s sworn to destroy.

Series background & context

A Curse of Blood steps away from the concrete jungles of the Ruthless series and into a paranormal world where vampires run mafia-style syndicates and hunters stalk them from the shadows. It’s still recognisably a Sadie Kincaid universe—sharp banter, morally gray leads, and heat that scorches the page—but now there are fangs, magic and prophecy too.

At the centre of it all is the collision between a battle-hardened hunter and the immortal she should hate.

In the first book, A Curse of Blood, Rosa Capelli makes a living killing monsters. She’s a vampire hunter with a quick tongue, a strong moral compass and a lifetime of secrets tied to her family name. When a mission goes sideways, she crosses paths with Luca da Firenze, a four-hundred-year-old enforcer owned by one of the most powerful vampire clans on earth.

Luca should be her perfect target—dead, dangerous and bound to the very creatures she’s sworn to destroy. Instead, their connection is instant and unnerving. The more they’re forced to work together, the more Rosa realises that the world she thought she understood is built on lies, and that the real threat may not be the monsters she’s been trained to hunt.

The follow-up, Unbound, continues that arc as the fragile alliance between hunter and vampire is tested by older powers and deeper magic. Without spoiling anything, the stakes expand beyond their own survival to the fate of entire clans, and both Rosa and Luca have to decide how much of themselves they’re willing to sacrifice.

Across the duology, Kincaid leans into favourite themes—found family, loyalty, and lovers who would tear down the world for each other—while playing with new toys like ancient curses, shadowy councils and a seductive, blood-soaked underworld. It’s a good fit for readers who enjoy her mafia romances and want that same intensity transplanted into a supernatural setting.
