Women on the Tear brings together four Sara Sheridan novels about young women facing messy, high-pressure turning points. The books do not follow one detective or one continuing setting. Their search crosses Britain and Ireland against the background of the Troubles. It is a tense, youthful story about friendship, deception, and the frightening consequences of digging into a secret.

In Ma Polinski’s Pockets, Edinburgh archaeologist Rachel Green inherits money from a woman she barely remembers from childhood. That surprise opens a mystery rooted in the Second World War. The novel mixes contemporary life with the moral aftershocks of the past, asking what ordinary people will overlook when fear, prejudice, or self-interest take hold.

The Pleasure Express takes readers to Hong Kong in 1999, as British rule is ending. Kate, only twenty, has travelled a long way from a small Scottish town and now lives as an expensive escort among money, luxury, and risk. Her friendship with Rosie is tested when the darker side of their glamorous new life begins to close in. The setting is bright, busy, and uneasy.

The fourth book, The Love Squad, follows May Anderson from Green Hill Island, where family life is shaped by prayer and self-sufficiency, to medical school in Manchester. Determined to become a doctor, May finds herself in an unfamiliar social world when she falls for Brazilian footballer Jesus Parasina. It is the most openly romantic entry, but May’s struggle to remain herself is still at its heart.
