Series background & context

Benjamin Percy's Wolverine run drops Logan into the Krakoa era and asks a simple question: what does a man built for war do when his people finally have a homeland worth protecting? The answer, unsurprisingly, is that he keeps getting dragged into other people's dirty work.

The series mixes several modes at once. Sometimes it is a black-ops comic. Sometimes it is monster horror. Sometimes it is a revenge story built around one of Logan's oldest grudges. Percy makes room for Omega Red, Maverick, Dracula, Deadpool, Ghost Rider, Beast, and of course Sabretooth, and somehow the book still feels like one long argument about control, loyalty, and whether Wolverine can ever really be used without being betrayed.

That tension is the whole engine.

Krakoa gives the series a strong backdrop because it offers Wolverine something real to lose. He is not just wandering from fight to fight. He is tied to a nation, a set of protocols, and a leadership structure that often asks him to do unforgivable things in the name of survival. The longer the run goes, the more that pressure shows, especially as Beast's schemes get darker and Logan's trust keeps eroding.

The tone is brutal but readable. Percy likes pulp momentum, old feuds, and claws-out action, but he also keeps circling back to Wolverine's loneliness and stubborn moral code. Even when Logan is at his most savage, the story knows exactly where his line is, and who keeps trying to push him past it.

If you want a modern Wolverine run with spies, vampires, secret prisons, hellfire, and a huge Sabretooth payoff, this is a strong place to start. Read from Wolverine Vol. 1 onward.
