Series background & context

The Widow Taker trilogy is a romantic thriller about a serial killer who targets widows and the FBI agents trying to stop him. The cases are frighteningly personal, and the women in danger must decide whether they can trust the people assigned to protect them.

The series starts with The Forgotten Widow. Special Agent Dean Malone joins an investigation into the murders of three widows. The case strikes a nerve because his own mother was a widow, but it becomes even more urgent when he learns how the killer selects victims.

The killer is watching.

Kenna Burke has spent almost three years grieving her husband and is only beginning to imagine a future for herself. Then an evil presence arrives at her door. Dean promises to keep her safe, but protection means spending time with a man who may change the way she sees her life.

The trilogy blends a continuing serial-killer investigation with romance under pressure. The threat is persistent, and the characters cannot treat their personal choices as separate from the case. Grief, isolation, and fear all shape the women the killer chooses, as well as the agents determined to reach them first.

Expect suspenseful investigations, protective relationships, and a darker atmosphere than a standard contemporary romance. Each installment adds another piece to the pursuit of the Widow Taker while giving a new couple a central role.

Start with The Forgotten Widow. The trilogy's main investigation continues across all three books.
