Series background & context
The Safeguard series is military romantic suspense centered on a Florida security and investigations firm. Its employees are trained, capable, and used to dealing with threats, but the cases they take on become tangled with personal histories and relationships they did not expect to revisit.
The series opens with Brutal Obsession. Former Marine Keane Sanderson joins the firm after surviving deployment in Iraq. Ashlyn Ellis, a federal prosecutor with a polished life on the surface, realizes someone has been watching her for a long time. She asks Keane for help, despite their difficult history.
Protection gets personal fast.
Each book follows a different couple as danger presses on a relationship. Stalkers, crimes, secrets, and past choices create the external conflict, while the characters must work out whether they can be honest with the person standing beside them. The security work gives the series a practical, action-oriented backbone.
Keane's story sets the tone. These are people who are good at looking after others, but less certain about allowing themselves to need anyone. That push and pull gives the romances their tension, especially when the characters have old resentments or unfinished attraction.
Expect protective heroes and heroines, investigations, escalating danger, and adult romantic chemistry. The books are connected through the firm and its circle of allies, though each installment gives a new relationship room to lead.
Start with Brutal Obsession and continue in order for the strongest sense of the team's shared world.
