Series background & context

The Wicked Witches of the Midwest Shorts are quick visits to Hemlock Cove and its magical residents. They step away from the main Bay Winchester mysteries to spend time with different points of view, earlier events, holidays, and smaller troubles.

Some of the stories look back in time, which lets readers see familiar characters before the main series began. Others focus on seasonal chaos, family squabbles, romance, or a problem that is too entertaining to fit into a full novel.

Aunt Tillie remains a reliable source of trouble.

These are companion pieces rather than replacements for the main mysteries. They add jokes, background, and character moments, but the central Wicked Witches storyline begins with Any Witch Way You Can. Readers who prefer full-length cases can skip around without losing the main plot.

For everyone else, the shorts are a chance to linger with Bay, Thistle, Clove, Landon, and the rest of the Hemlock Cove crowd. Read the timeline-placed stories after the novels around them, or save the retrospective stories for whenever you want a shorter dose of witchy family mayhem.
