Series background & context

The Wicked Witches of the Midwest takes place in Hemlock Cove, a small Michigan town where Bay Winchester edits the local paper and happens to come from a family of real witches. Bay would like a normal life, but murder investigations, old grudges, and magical problems keep getting in the way.

Her relatives are a large part of the appeal. Cousins Thistle and Clove bring their own strong opinions, while Great-Aunt Tillie is unpredictable, powerful, and rarely concerned with behaving herself. The family loves one another, even when they are loudly driving each other up a wall.

Then somebody dies.

Each main mystery gives Bay a crime to solve while the series builds its ongoing relationships, especially her connection with local law enforcement and the complicated people of Hemlock Cove. Magic is real but does not solve every problem. Motive, gossip, local history, and plain human bad behavior still matter.

The world also includes short mysteries and a separate fantasy sequence. The core mysteries are the best entry point. Start with Any Witch Way You Can, then continue in publication and story order. Readers who enjoy small-town cozies, bickering families, light romance, and witches who treat danger as an inconvenience will feel at home here.
