Series background & context

The Wesson and Sloan FBI Thriller series follows two people who should be able to trust the system, but cannot. Simon Sloan is an FBI agent accused of murdering his own boss. Janelle Wesson is a private investigator who leaves the Parker Agency and finds herself on the run beside him.

The trouble starts in Escape from Danger. Simon discovers his boss, Barnabus Cooley, dead in a Washington, D.C., office and finds a warning telling him to run. He does. With Janelle. Their attempt to survive sends them racing across South America while an unknown enemy stays close behind.

This is an international conspiracy thriller, with a relationship at its center. Simon and Janelle are not simply partners assigned to a case. They are trying to work out what they mean to one another while facing false charges, shifting loyalties, and people who can reach them almost anywhere.

The books move through Buenos Aires, Athens, Dublin, Moscow, Washington, D.C., and other locations as the pair follows the trail of the criminal organization tied to Cooley's death. Each installment opens up more of the larger mystery, including Group 141, Donavan Santana's criminal empire, and the question of who truly ordered the murder that ruined Simon's life.

The stakes grow from book to book. In Escape from Destruction, Simon and Janelle pursue a possible new leader of the organization in Athens. Escape from Despair takes them to Dublin, where a search for answers becomes a murder investigation. By Escape from Death and Escape from Doom, their pursuit has become a fight to expose the people behind the conspiracy before it causes even wider harm.

Nobody gets to rest for long.

The series is closely linked to the Miranda and Parker mysteries, since Janelle's history with the Parker Agency connects the casts. Still, its five books tell a focused story of their own and work best in order, starting with Escape from Danger. Expect pursuit scenes, foreign settings, criminal networks, and a continuing question that keeps the pressure on: can Simon clear his name before the people hunting him win?
