Series background & context

Welcome to Paradise is the original version of Evan Ashford and Mallory Wray's long-form love story. Before the later trilogy edition, this was the four-book arc that walked readers through the relationship in smaller steps: Good Vibrations, Good Intentions, Good Sensations, and Happy Endings.

The setup is pure escape at first.

Mallory heads to Hawaii looking for distance from the life that hurt her, and Evan is exactly the kind of charming trouble she should probably avoid. One of the big pleasures of this series is the setting. Sun, beaches, and that temporary holiday feeling make it easy for both characters to believe they can keep things light. Scott is not interested in letting them keep that illusion for long.

As the books continue, the real shape of the series becomes clear. This is not four separate romances. It is one ongoing relationship told in stages. Chemistry comes first. Then come distance, family pressure, emotional baggage, and the stubborn question of whether something that began in paradise can survive anywhere else.

That serialized structure gives the story room to breathe. Good Vibrations handles the rush of the attraction and the island atmosphere. Good Intentions and Good Sensations lean harder into separation, interference, and the work of choosing each other when life stops feeling like a vacation. By the time Happy Endings arrives, the focus is less on the chase and more on what it costs to protect a future together.

Readers coming to this page now may notice that the same central romance was later reworked into the Playboy in Paradise trilogy. That gives Welcome to Paradise an interesting place in Scott's backlist. It is both a beachy new adult romance in its own right and the earlier shape of a story she later tightened and relaunched.

If you like following one couple across several shorter installments, this series has an addictive rhythm. Each book adds a little more heat, a little more conflict, and another turn in Evan and Mallory's push and pull. It is beach reading with more continuity and emotional carryover than a standard standalone.
