Series background & context

The Kingwood books sit in a richer, darker corner of Scott's catalogue. The series starts with money, power, and a family empire big enough to feel almost royal. At the center of that first arc is Alexander Kingwood IV, a man shaped by expectation, and Sara Jane Grayson, the woman tied up in both his weakness and his strength.

This world runs on control until love gets in the way.

The first two books, Savage and Savior, work as a duet. They follow Alexander and Sara Jane through a second-chance romance wrapped in family pressure, hidden enemies, and the question of who can be trusted once the Kingwood empire is at stake. The conflict is personal, but it is also tied to power, inheritance, and the danger that comes with being close to people who want the crown, the company, or both.

After that, the series opens outward. Sacred shifts attention to Cruise, a character marked by what came before, and Clara, who becomes a source of hope he did not expect. The suspense is still there, but the emotional center is healing. Solace changes the texture again by moving toward Jason Koster and Delilah Noelle in a smaller, more grounded setting where gossip travels fast and redemption feels a little more human-sized.

That mix is what makes the series interesting. You get the heat and tension of empire romance, but you also get books that care about aftermath. Scott does not leave the emotional wreckage behind just because one central couple finds a way through.

The tone is moodier than her lighter contemporary work. There is glamour, but there is also fear, betrayal, and the sense that every choice carries a cost. Even so, the books stay focused on relationships, not just twists. The suspense matters because it pushes the couples into showing who they really are when comfort is gone and loyalty is tested.

If you like romance with billionaire power struggles, wounded heroes, and danger humming in the background, start with Savage and Savior. If you want the connected follow-through, Sacred and Solace give this world more heart and breathing room without losing the intensity that made the first part work.
