Athera lies beneath the Mistwraith’s perpetual fog, and half-brothers Arithon and Lysaer must combine their powers of shadow and light to challenge it. Their opposing convictions complicate a struggle whose consequences reach far beyond lifting the darkness.

The Mistwraith’s curse drives Arithon and Lysaer into relentless opposition after their shared victory. As Lysaer gathers an army, Arithon turns toward the sea, seeking a way to evade capture and resist a conflict threatening Athera’s deeper balance.

Lysaer reaches Merior to find Arithon’s shipyards destroyed and his half-brother gone. Arithon and Dakar seek support among the Vastmark clans, while a princess’s captivity and demands for ransom intensify the maneuvering ahead of a major confrontation.
