War of the Alphas Books in Order

War of the Alphas shifts the werewolf side of the Descentverse into darker political territory. The lead is Deirdre Tombs, who died years earlier and came back changed into a shapeshifter who cannot actually shift. In pack terms that makes her an omega, which is a dangerous place to be when power decides everything.

The pressure comes from Everton Stark, an ambitious alpha who wants dominance over every pack and is willing to grind other people down to get it. Deirdre ends up caught between Stark's hunger for control and Rylie's attempts to protect what remains of the old order. That conflict gives the series its shape from Omega onward.

This is a power struggle first.

There is still romance and supernatural action, but the real engine is pack hierarchy, coercion, and leadership. Reine is interested here in the people who get trapped below the top level, the ones who are expected to obey, endure, or disappear. Deirdre makes a strong center because she understands weakness from the inside and still refuses to stay in it.

As the books move through Beta, Alpha, and Pas, the story keeps widening into elections, shifting loyalties, and the question of who gets to define the future of the gaeans. Nobody in this series gets a simple moral position, which helps keep it from feeling like a straight good-pack versus bad-pack story.

If the earlier werewolf books are about change and survival, War of the Alphas is about what happens after survival, when communities have to decide who leads and what kind of force they are willing to live under. It is tense, ugly in interesting ways, and much more political than the title might first suggest.
