Author bio

Victoria Walters is a UK author who writes contemporary romance, small-town love stories, and cosy mysteries. She is a full-time writer based in Surrey, and her books tend to sit in that friendly space where community matters, families are messy, and people are trying to start again without quite knowing how.

Books were always the through line.

Walters has said she was a bookworm from childhood, and her first book was handwritten when she was sixteen. It was closely inspired by Sweet Valley High, which feels fitting for a writer who would go on to build stories around friendship, love, family secrets, and the pull of a place that feels like home.

Before writing full time, she studied sociology at Warwick University. She later worked for a business publisher and as a Waterstones bookseller, two jobs that kept her close to books from different angles. One gave her a look at publishing from the inside. The other put her in front of readers, shelves, and the everyday joy of recommending the right book at the right time.

Her debut novel, The Second Love of My Life, arrived in 2016. It follows Rose, a young widow in the Cornish town of Talting, as she tries to imagine a future after losing her childhood sweetheart. The book set out several of Walters’s recurring interests: grief, second chances, seaside or village settings, and the quiet bravery it takes to let life move forward.

Then came Glendale.

The Glendale Hall books moved her into the Scottish Highlands, with stories about homecomings, family rifts, weddings, farms, old loves, and new plans. Coming Home to Glendale Hall introduces Beth Williams returning to the estate she left behind as a teenager, while later books follow friends and villagers as they find their own fresh starts. Readers often come to the series for its village warmth and stay for the way each book gives a different character room to change.

Walters also turned to cosy crime with The Dedley End Mysteries. These books follow Nancy Hunter and her grandmother Jane, owners of a crime fiction bookshop in a Cotswold village where murders keep interrupting ordinary life. The setup is playful, but the mysteries still give readers clues, suspects, family questions, and the pleasure of watching a bookish duo think their way through danger.

In recent years, Walters has leaned into book-world rom coms too. The Love Interest, The Plot Twist, The Paris Chapter, and Long Story Short all play with writers, publishing, readers, and romantic tropes, often with forced proximity, second chances, and people who are not as sure of themselves as they pretend to be. Her Birch Tree Farm books add a seasonal small-town feel, starting with Love and Lattes at Pumpkin Hollow.

That mix makes sense.

Walters’s books are full of readers, writers, bakers, farmers, booksellers, and people who are quietly rebuilding. She still lives in Surrey and remains active around the book community, which suits a writer whose stories are often about finding your people, and sometimes finding them in the last place you planned to look.
