Under the Sea Books in Order

Together they follow Robby Hoenig, a boy growing up around scientific research and getting into trouble faster than the adults would like.

The future here is old-school and very appealing. Underwater stations, experimental sea technology, daring dives, hidden threats, and far-off expeditions all feel like part of one coherent dream of tomorrow. Dickson wrote plenty of harder-edged science fiction elsewhere, but these books are more about discovery, mystery, and the excitement of living close to the unknown.

Robby is the anchor.

Because he is young, the stories keep their sense of wonder even when the stakes turn serious. In Secret Under the Sea, strange behavior from a dolphin companion leads toward a mystery on the ocean floor. Secret under Antarctica shifts to a colder, more dangerous setting and a threat on a much larger scale. Secret Under the Caribbean adds wrecks, thieves, and underwater pursuit. Along the way, recurring adults and helpers give the series continuity without taking the adventure away from Robby.

These books are best read as brisk juvenile science fiction from a period when the future could still belong to ocean domes as much as rocket ships. If you want Dickson in a more accessible mode, with mystery and exploration driving the plot, this is a very friendly place to start.
