Series background & context
Ugly Stick Saloon is the big Myla Jackson world, the one most likely to hook readers who want a long run of connected cowboy romances. The setting is Temptation, Texas, where the local saloon, strip club, nearby ranches, and restless townspeople keep sending new couples into one another's path.
It all starts with the Ugly Stick itself.
The opening book, Boots & Chaps, introduces Audrey Anderson, a former stripper trying to run the saloon on her own terms, and Jackson Gray Wolf, the cowboy who changes her plans in a hurry. From there the series spreads out through ranch hands, waitresses, bikers, pilots, flower shop owners, rodeo cowboys, McFarlan brothers, and more than one charity auction that turns into a lot more than a date.
Each installment centers a different romance, or sometimes a more complicated arrangement than that, but recurring faces matter here. Audrey stays important. Jackson stays important. The saloon stays important. Readers come back not just for the steam, but for the feeling of a messy, nosy, affectionate little community where everyone knows enough about everyone else to cause problems.
The tone is playful, but the feelings are not throwaway. Jackson likes bold setups, a masked dance, a fake arrangement, a stranded woman, an impulsive auction bid, but she also threads in money worries, old heartbreak, family pressure, infertility, war scars, and the fear of asking for more than life is willing to give.
That mix is what gives the series staying power. It is sexy and cheerful on the surface, but the books keep finding ways to ground the fantasy in ordinary loneliness, loyalty, and wanting a place to belong.
If you like small-town western romance with recurring characters, high heat, and a setting that feels like its own gossip-filled universe, Ugly Stick Saloon is probably the best place to start with Myla Jackson.
