Series background & context
Twisted Pages is a set of interconnected fairy tale retellings that live somewhere between dark fantasy and swoony romance. The story starts with Zaina, a scarred survivor who has spent years running errands for a woman known only as Madame, trading freedom for the safety of her younger sisters.
In Of Thorns and Beauty, Zaina is forced into an arranged marriage to a Viking king in a remote, mist wrapped keep. The locals whisper about curses and monsters, but the real danger comes from old bargains, a poisoned past, and the secrets Zaina carries. The familiar bones of Beauty and the Beast are there, but twisted into something sharper and more human.
Of Beasts and Vengeance pushes that story into even rougher waters. After Zaina's attempt to protect the people she loves backfires, she finds herself on the run with the only hope of saving her husband's kingdom in her hands. The line between captor and ally blurs as she and Einar realise they have both lived under the shadow of the same monster for far longer than they knew.
The focus then shifts to Aika, another of Madame's girls, in Of Glass and Ashes and Of Thieves and Shadows. These books riff on Cinderella through a heroine who is less interested in dancing at the ball and more interested in burning down the city that hurt her. Aika moves through masquerades, underworld deals, and a dangerous marriage of convenience, always straddling the line between justice and vengeance.
The fifth book, Of Songs and Silence, belongs to Melodi, the sister who never got to leave. Haunted by an otherworldly song and dragged beneath the waves to the brutal undersea kingdom of Mayim, she must decide whether to trust the man sent to capture her or cling to the rage that has kept her alive.
Across all five books the common threads are trauma, sisterhood, and the long work of reclaiming your own story. There are sea kings and cursed princes, enchanted forests and deadly courts, but the series keeps circling back to three girls raised by the same monster and determined to make sure she never hurts anyone again.
Expect slow burn romance, morally gray choices, a fair bit of emotional wreckage, and endings that manage to feel hopeful without pretending the past did not happen. The series is best read in order, since each book builds on the last and the sisters' stories tangle together.
