Series background & context
The Lochlann Deception picks up threads from both The Lochlann Treaty and The Lochlann Feuds, but twists them into something more intimate and political. The focus this time is on Galina, a sharp tongued lady of the Socairan court, and Davin, the notorious black sheep of the Lochlann royal family.
In Hollow Court, Galina is desperate to escape an uncle who views her as property and a looming marriage that would lock her into a life she never wanted. Her only way out is to call in an old life debt and show up on Davin's doorstep, demanding he agree to a betrothal that will give them both breathing room.
Davin is hardly hero material at first glance. Years of scandal and bad decisions have left his reputation in tatters and his lands in danger. Agreeing to a fake engagement with a woman who clearly despises him feels like yet another terrible idea, but it might be the only way to protect his people. Their pretend romance becomes a high stakes act as they navigate spies, court gossip, and a brewing rebellion.
The sequel, Fragile Oath, opens in the wreckage of that ruse. After one brief stretch of peace, Galina vanishes, Davin's cousin lies dead, and half the realm is ready to believe Davin is a murderer. Determined to clear his name and find the woman who sacrificed herself for his safety, he chases her across battlefields and back alleys, all while questioning just how many secrets she kept.
Galina, meanwhile, is trapped once more in the web she tried so hard to cut herself free from. To shield Davin and his family she has walked back into the arms of the man who first tried to own her, surrounded by rebels who would happily see her head on a spike. Survival means playing a role she hates and trusting that the stubborn prince she left behind will understand why she did it.
Together, the duet leans hard into second chance romance, fake engagement and marriage of convenience tropes, and the idea that trust is something you build, lose, and fight to rebuild. The emotional stakes feel close to the skin, even as the story deals with uprisings, assassinations, and the threat of two kingdoms sliding back into open war.
If you enjoyed the glimpses of Davin and Galina in the earlier Lochlann books, this series delivers their full arc, complete with banter, heartbreak, and a hard earned happily ever after.
