Traitor of Villains spins out of the world of Royals of Villain Academy, but it has its own mood from the start. The heroine, Cressida Warbury, is already carrying a reputation before page one. Her family stood on the wrong side of a magical war, and she walked away from them. That should have made things simple. It does not.

Peace turns out to be messier than war.

Cressida is trying to live in the aftermath of a conflict that split her community in two. She is watched with suspicion, hunted by old loyalties, and not fully at home anywhere. That makes the series feel a little more mature and politically tangled than its parent series. The action still runs through magical schools, family power, and dark social circles, but the focus is on what happens after the big victory, when everyone has to figure out how to live with what they chose.

The romance grows out of that instability. Cressida ends up pulled between a charming heir who is very much off limits and a brooding newcomer with alarming information about a new conspiracy. Together they push her back toward the parts of the magical world she was hoping to leave behind. She has to act the part of a loyal villain again while secretly trying to stop the people who would drag their society back into cruelty.

That undercover angle drives the books. Cressida is always balancing performance against truth, and that makes her a fun heroine to follow. She can be sharp, strategic, and self-aware, but the series never pretends that reinvention is easy. Her past keeps pressing in.

So does the danger.

If you like dark academia settings, post-war politics, morally complicated heroines, and romantic tension built around bad ideas that are impossible to ignore, Traitor of Villains is a strong follow-up world. It keeps the villain-school appeal of the earlier books while shifting the focus to loyalty, reputation, and the cost of choosing your own side.
