Series background & context

The Alpha Project Psychic books sit closer to romantic suspense than some of Eva Chase's bigger fantasy worlds, but they still revolve around hidden powers and dangerous systems. The core idea is simple and nasty: people with psychic gifts are being hunted, studied, and controlled by an operation that treats them as experiments instead of human beings.

That operation is Alpha Project.

The books follow different couples connected to that threat. Some characters are captives or survivors of the program. Others are runaways, investigators, or people who get dragged into the mess when their own gifts surface. Because of that setup, the series keeps a tight, tense feeling. These are stories about people who cannot safely live out in the open, even when all they want is something ordinary.

The powers themselves stay personal rather than flashy. Mind reading, psychometry, and other abilities matter because of what they do to relationships. A secret is harder to keep when someone can hear thoughts or read the history of an object with a touch. That makes the romance especially vulnerable. The characters are often drawn together by crisis, but what keeps them together is learning how to trust while the people hunting them close in.

There is also a strong thread of resistance running through the series. The villains are powerful because they hide behind research, authority, and the idea that their cruelty is for some greater good. The heroes and heroines have to push back against that, often while they are still figuring out what their own gifts mean.

So the books feel intimate and urgent at the same time.

If you want paranormal romance that leans more into secret labs, fugitives, and psychic cat-and-mouse games than into grand worldbuilding, Alpha Project Psychic fills that niche well. It keeps the emotional focus close while still giving readers a larger conspiracy to worry about.
