Author bio
Tonya Burrows grew up in a small town in Western New York, and she has been writing for a very long time. She wrote her first romance when she was thirteen, which makes a lot of sense once you spend time with her books. The pull toward love stories, danger, and messy feelings was there early.
She kept at it.
Burrows studied creative writing at SUNY Oswego and later continued her genre training through Seton Hill University's Writing Popular Fiction MFA program. That mix of classroom work and deep affection for commercial fiction shows up in novels that move quickly but still make room for hurt, healing, and humor.
Her published career took off in 2013 with SEAL of Honor, the first book in the HORNET series. That same year she also launched Wilde Nights in Paradise, which introduced the Wilde brothers and a second connected romantic suspense world. From the start, she was not writing quiet love stories. Her characters were rescuing hostages, dodging killers, protecting witnesses, and falling in love while everything around them was trying to come apart.
That balance has become her lane.
Across series like HORNET, Wilde Security, Northern Rescue, Redwood Coast Rescue, and Valor Ridge, Burrows keeps returning to people who are carrying more than they let on. Former SEALs, medics, hackers, handlers, ranch hands, and wounded veterans show up again and again. So do women who refuse to be sidelined, whether they are lawyers, trainers, pilots, journalists, podcasters, or small-town business owners.
If you want a quick sense of her range, SEAL of Honor and Honor Reclaimed lean into military missions and emotional fallout. Wilde Nights in Paradise and Wilde for Her bring in a family-run security firm and a lot of chemistry. Northern Escape turns toward Alaska and survival in the cold. Searching for Rescue makes dogs, veterans, and recovery part of the emotional center. She has also played with the paranormal in Vision of Darkness, later reissued as The Haunting of Pru Maddox.
The dogs matter.
One of the clearest through lines in Burrows's work is how often loyalty shows up in four-legged form. K9 partners, rescue dogs, and service animals are not side details in her stories. They help open characters up, force them to trust, and sometimes save the day outright. Readers who love romantic suspense with animals tend to find a lot to like in her books.
As her catalog has grown, so has the connected feel of her fictional universe. Characters cross from one series into another, family ties keep widening, and longtime readers get the fun of spotting familiar names in new places. Even when the setting changes, from Maine lighthouses to Alaskan snowfields to Montana ranch land, she keeps coming back to found family, second chances, and people learning they are not as alone as they thought.
Away from the page, she has written about her love of travel, road trips, and National Parks, and she has shared that she is usually happy with either a true crime documentary or a baking show on in the background. She also seems to have a soft spot for Broadway tunes and kitchen dancing.
These days she lives with her husband, two doodles, and Scribble the Writer Cat. That feels about right for a novelist whose books are full of chaos, heart, and very good dogs.
