Tom Tinney Books in Order

Tom Tinney is an American writer of science fiction, fantasy, and biker-centered stories. He often uses the nickname “PiR8” and the self-described label “Biker-Nerd,” a compact way of bringing together two parts of his life: a longtime interest in motorcycles and a deep appetite for speculative fiction.

That mix is central to how he presents himself as a writer.

Tinney served in the U.S. Air Force, an experience that sits naturally beside the military, technical, and law-enforcement threads that show up in his fiction. He has also edited a motorcycle magazine and written articles, giving him a practical background in nonfiction work before his novels took shape.

His writing has never stayed in one lane. Alongside space opera and paranormal science fiction, he has written flash fiction, biker stories, detective pieces, cyberpunk, and fantasy. The common thread is a liking for big setups, unusual technology, hard choices, and characters dealing with trouble that is much larger than they expected.

His first novel, Threads, arrived in 2013. It is a far-future science fiction story set in 2576, when humanity has spread into the MetroStellar and travel between the stars has changed the shape of commerce, policing, and everyday life. At its center are twin USS Marshals Matt and Mark Williams, whose shared connection becomes crucial as a murder investigation and an old corporate secret begin to converge.

The future is busy, dangerous, and full of moving parts.

Readers who enjoy Threads tend to find a large-scale setting with interstellar transport, competing institutions, undercover work, and a mystery that reaches well beyond one case. Tinney uses the Williams brothers to keep the story personal, even as the questions around power, security, family, and justice widen across the galaxy.

His next novel, Blood of Invidia, was a very different kind of project. Tinney wrote it with his son, Morgen Batten, after the two had built story ideas through text messages while living on opposite sides of the world. They had not met in person when they began the book, and their collaboration became a father-and-son creative project shaped by distance, shared interests, drafts, outlines, and long-distance planning.

They eventually met in 2019.

Blood of Invidia opens the Maestru series and combines alien contact, ancient galactic history, immortality, vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, and action. It was a finalist for a 2017 Dragon Award. Where Threads leans into a sprawling future and linked investigations, Blood of Invidia takes a more direct, paranormal-inflected route into a wider galactic conflict.

Tinney has also contributed short fiction to anthologies and has continued to develop stories in several corners of speculative fiction. His work is a good fit for readers who like their science fiction active and idea-heavy, with motorcycles, military experience, technology, monsters, mysteries, and a little irreverence all welcome at the same table.
