Time and Tide Books in Order

The Time and Tide series takes May McGoldrick's interest in history and drops it into a very different kind of romance. These are time-travel stories with secret missions, shifting identities, and characters who have to decide whether they can trust the people they love when the fate of history is on the line.

The opening novel, Jane Austen Cannot Marry, follows Nadine Finley, a Scribe Guardian from the future. Her job sends her to 1811 with an unusual assignment: stop Jane Austen from marrying Captain Charles Gordon. If that relationship changes Austen's future, the writer may never complete the work that leads to Pride and Prejudice. Nadine has been trained to protect the timeline, but the mission grows messier when Xander Nouri, a present-day technology billionaire with unfinished feelings for Nadine, follows her across the centuries.

Saving history is rarely tidy.

The series uses the contrast between Regency England and contemporary life for both tension and comedy. Nadine knows the rules and risks of time travel. Xander does not, and his presence makes a careful plan much harder to carry out. Their connection gives the story a second-chance-romance thread, while Jane Austen's possible future adds a playful historical question to the central plot.

Erase Me broadens the premise. Avalie Briar and Reed Michael are covert agents who can change the course of history, but they arrive in a California beach town with competing loyalties and closely held secrets. Their attraction is immediate, inconvenient, and dangerous. As their missions collide, they have to work out who is manipulating whom, and whether changing the past could erase the life one of them is trying to save.

These books blend romantic suspense with speculative fiction. There are missions to complete, identities to hide, and plenty of pressure created by knowing that one wrong move can have consequences far beyond a single relationship. The time-travel mechanics serve the characters rather than replacing them, so the stories stay focused on longing, trust, regret, and the hope that people can choose a better future.

Start with Jane Austen Cannot Marry. It introduces the world of Scribe Guardians and sets up the larger questions about who gets to alter history and why. Then move to Erase Me, which continues the series' wider time-travel framework while centering a new pair of agents.

Expect fast-moving plots, banter, romantic complications, and a little historical wishful thinking. The series asks a simple question with plenty of room for trouble: if you could change the past, would you know when to stop?
