Egypt matters most, but Rome and other locations widen the canvas and keep the series from feeling repetitive.

Sahara is smart, driven, and emotionally believable, which matters because the books ask her to carry a lot. They are part mystery, part historical adventure, part time-travel puzzle, and they keep the emotional question simple all the way through, if the past is where the answers are, what is she willing to risk to find them?
