Series background & context

The Summer Suspense Mysteries take LJ Ross’s love of atmosphere and transplant it to the Cornish coast. Each book is a stand‑alone story with a new lead character, but they’re bound together by sun‑bleached beaches, hidden coves, and the sense that even the prettiest seaside village can hide something dangerous under the surface.

In The Cove, publishing professional Gabrielle Adams survives a notorious serial killer who pushes commuters from Tube platforms. Traumatised and exhausted, she grabs the chance to run a tiny bookshop in a remote Cornish cove, hoping the sea air and new routine will quiet her nightmares. Instead, unsettling incidents and new threats make her wonder whether she has escaped the past or invited it to follow her.

The Creek follows Kate Irving, who arrives at her grandfather’s cottage on Frenchman’s Creek in the dead of night with her young son and very little else. The slow‑paced community along the Helford estuary offers exactly the anonymity she craves—fishermen, artists and second‑home owners all minding their own business. When tragedy strikes, the same neighbours who welcomed her begin to demand explanations she can’t bear to give, and the life she built on secrets starts to unravel.

In The Bay, the lead is Detective Sergeant Sophie Keane, a local officer in St Ives who appears to have the dream posting: light policing and lazy weekends on the sand. Beneath that surface, she’s living with a twenty‑year‑old secret. When a body is found during the opening of a new seafront gallery and the crime scene feels horribly familiar, Sophie is forced to connect a present-day killer to something she thought she’d buried for good.

The Haven brings Irish newsreader Isolde Malone to a windswept Cornish hotel after a very public crisis at home pushes her into taking a break. A family event at Tintagel should offer distraction, but a body on the shore and a storm‑bound group of guests turn the weekend into a classic country‑house whodunnit. As old legends and new grudges collide, Isolde has to pick out truth from performance in a room full of polished strangers.

Across the series, the tone stays firmly in the "holiday thriller" space: fast‑moving but not excessively gory, with a thread of romance and dry humour running through the danger. You can read the books in any order, dipping into whichever premise appeals, and still get the same mix of seaside escapism and page‑turning suspense.
