Anya and Dom are no longer just trying to survive one institution. Now they are dealing with divided communities, synths and artificial intelligence, cadet training, secret groups, rival factions, and the question of whether change from inside the system is even possible. Cynthia and the AI Quintus add another thread, especially around personhood, freedom, and who gets treated as fully human.

The tone stays tense and fast, but there is room for loyalty, friendship, and a touch of romance inside all the pressure. Green writes this series like a chain of traps, escapes, and hard choices, with just enough world-building to make the machinery feel real. If you like YA dystopia with rebellion, memory puzzles, and a darker edge, start with The Facility. It gives you the cleanest path into Anya's world and lets the bigger conflict build book by book.
