The Librarian's Vampire Assistant Books in Order

This series takes vampire romance and runs it through a mystery filter. Michael Vanderhorst is ancient, dangerous, and very tired of nonsense. Miriam is a librarian in sunny Arizona who keeps stumbling into exactly the kind of nonsense that finds him. Their story begins with an investigation into a murder, but it quickly turns into a longer tangle of vampire politics, supernatural rules, and a romance built on protection, irritation, and reluctant devotion.

The setting matters more than you might think. Phoenix gives the books a bright, dry, daytime backdrop that keeps the tone a little off-center in a good way. Michael is a vampire who hates the sun, Miriam is bookish and chaotic, and the world around them keeps getting stranger. Councils, missing vampires, rival factions, and old grudges all start pressing in as the series goes on.

It is cozy, but not too cozy.

Pamfiloff keeps the humor sharp, especially in the way Michael reacts to Miriam's danger-magnet tendencies. At the same time, the relationship slowly becomes the heart of the series. If you like an ongoing couple, supernatural mystery, and a vampire hero who acts grumpy because that is easier than admitting he is obsessed, this is a very easy series to keep reading.
