Series background & context
The League of Rogues is one of Lauren Smith's big historical romance worlds, and it is easy to see why readers stick with it. The setup is simple and very effective: a tight circle of scandalous male friends, each convinced he is far too dangerous, broken, or stubborn for love, keeps getting proven wrong.
The setting is Regency England, but the books are not just ballroom stories. Smith mixes London society with espionage, revenge plots, kidnappings, Hellfire Club danger, snowy inns, Scottish detours, and family secrets. The heroines are just as important as the rogues. They are clever, determined women who refuse to be managed, and that is usually what throws the heroes off balance.
Across the series, the emotional pull comes from the same place. These men have reputations. Some earned them. Some are hiding behind them. Either way, love is always a problem before it becomes the answer. If you like historical romance with strong friend-group energy, recurring characters, and a generous amount of drama, this is probably the place to start.
