Forget Me Not

by Sarah M Eden

Series background & context

The Gents series grew out of side characters and hints in Eden’s other work and has become one of her most friendship driven projects. Set primarily in the late eighteenth century, it follows a tight circle of men who met as schoolboys and have carried their loyalty into adulthood, even as life pulls them in different directions.

The opening novel, Forget Me Not, introduces Lucas Jonquil returning to Lampton Park after years abroad. His childhood friend Julia Cummings, who felt abandoned when he left, now wants nothing to do with him. When their families arrange a surprise marriage, Lucas must rely on the advice and interference of his friends, the self styled Gents, to rebuild trust with a woman who has every reason to push him away.

Later books move different members of the group into the foreground. Lily of the Valley sends one Gent into a remote valley where political unrest, personal grief, and a complicated heroine force him to question his assumptions. Fleur de Lis and related novellas like Snowdrops and Winterberry show how the friends rally to protect one another’s reputations, schemes, and hearts.

The series stretches even further with stories like Love in a Mist, which takes the Gents to France in 1789. An unexpected inheritance and a mysterious letter draw Lord Aldric Benick and his friends into a country on the brink of revolution. There he collides with Céleste Fortier, the woman whose heart he once broke, and together they must survive both political upheaval and their unresolved past.

What makes the Gents books distinctive is the way friendship sits alongside romance instead of fading into the background. The men tease, support, and sometimes drag each other toward better choices, and the women who join their circle often find as much comfort in that found family as they do in their individual love stories.

Readers who enjoy interconnected series will notice how the Gents touch other parts of Eden’s fictional world, crossing paths with the Lancaster and Jonquil families and even brushing against newer projects like the Storm Tide books. The result is a layered universe where one group of friends can quietly shape the fates of many couples.
