The Feedback Loop Books in Order

The Feedback Loop is one of Harmon Cooper's defining series and one of his earliest big GameLit projects. It starts with Quantum Hughes trapped inside a virtual world where his days repeat, the violence repeats, and the system seems content to keep him there forever. He survives because he is tough, angry, and stubborn enough not to fold.

Then a real message gets through.

That message, sent by Frances Euphoria, breaks the closed circuit and turns the story into something much larger. Suddenly Quantum is not only trying to survive a glitch. He is being hunted by the Reapers, moving across multiple Proxima worlds, and learning that the company logic behind all of this may be uglier than he imagined. The books keep widening from there, moving through fantasy worlds, cyberpunk corners, and the messy overlap between virtual existence and physical bodies.

What makes the series stick is that Quantum is never just a stat sheet lead. He is abrasive, emotional, funny in a dark way, and very aware that survival is not the same thing as freedom. The books also care about NPCs, relationships, and the weird ethics of worlds built for profit and control.

If you want a foundational LitRPG series with looping-time tension, real momentum, and a setting big enough to spin off into several other books, this is one of the obvious places to begin with Cooper. It is angry, inventive, and still feels central to the rest of his catalog.
