Series background & context

The Elite is a co written MM romance trilogy from Ella Frank and Brooke Blaine that trades courtrooms and city streets for cockpits and flight decks. Think Top Gun energy with a queer twist, where two rival pilots are pushed together at one of the most demanding naval aviation programs in the world.

Mateo Morgan, call sign Solo, is reckless, cocky, and frighteningly talented in the air. He is famous in the US Navy for his bad boy reputation and for flying like he has nothing to lose. When he is unexpectedly chosen to train at an elite aviation academy, no one is more surprised than his fellow pilots.

Grant Hughes, call sign Panther, is his opposite. Disciplined, rule focused, and carrying the weight of being a top commander’s son, he has built his entire identity around being the best for all the right reasons. He cannot afford distractions or mistakes, especially not the kind that come wrapped in a smirk and a leather jacket.

In Danger Zone, the first book, Solo and Panther collide as competitors and unwilling teammates. Mission rules are supposed to be simple: win, stay sharp, and do not get involved with your rival. Attraction, of course, has other ideas. Training sequences, locker room tension, and late night encounters turn rivalry into something hotter and far more dangerous.

Need for Speed and Classified continue and conclude their story as the stakes rise in the air and on the ground. The series explores questions of legacy, masculinity, and what it means to put your life and your heart in someone else’s hands when you have been raised to see vulnerability as a weakness.

Throughout, the military backdrop feels vivid but accessible, with enough detail to make the flight scenes exciting without overwhelming readers who are there for the romance. Frank and Blaine lean into banter, sexual tension, and the thrill of watching two strong willed men slowly concede that they would rather fight side by side than against each other.
