Series background & context

Chicago Heat is a contemporary MM romance spin on Ella Frank’s Chicagoverse, set against the grit and gloss of modern Chicago. It focuses on Ryan Carrigan and Jameson Clarke, two men who should never have crossed paths, and what happens when they do.

Ryan is polished and put together, the kind of guy who looks as if he stepped out of a magazine spread. He has a good job, close friends, and a quiet hope that somewhere out there is a man who is kind, steady, and willing to build a life with him. On paper, he has everything. In reality, he is tired of being everyone’s charming side character instead of the one who gets chosen.

Jameson comes from the opposite side of the city and the opposite side of the emotional spectrum. Raised on the South Side, he learned early that life is hard and people leave. He works with his hands, keeps his circle small, and believes that staying detached is the only way to avoid getting hurt. Relationships are not on his to do list.

Their story kicks off in a dingy neighborhood bar where Jameson steps in when he sees a well dressed stranger about to have his wallet lifted. That stranger is Ryan. What should have been a single moment of grudging thanks turns into something far more complicated as fate, and mutual friends, keep throwing them back together.

Across the books, Frank plays with class differences, old scars, and the slow, sometimes awkward business of learning to trust someone who does not fit your old idea of “safe.” Ryan has to decide whether he is brave enough to chase a man who tells him he does not do relationships. Jameson has to admit that the rich, sunny attorney who keeps calling him “GQ” is under his skin in ways a casual fling cannot explain.

Chicago Heat also deepens the broader Chicagoverse. Familiar faces from the Temptation, Confessions, Prime Time, and Intentions books drift in and out, offering advice, teasing, and the sense that Ryan and Jameson are part of a much larger chosen family. The tone mixes sharp banter and intensely sexy scenes with quieter moments of caretaking, healing, and working through past mistakes.

By the end of their arc, Chicago Heat feels less like a side series and more like a reward for long time readers who wanted to see one of the universe’s sweetest side characters finally find someone who will stand in the storm with him.
