Series background & context

The Circle Trilogy gathers six people to confront Lilith, a vampire whose ambitions threaten more than one world. The goddess Morrigan charges them with forming a circle strong enough to resist her. Their abilities and backgrounds differ, and some come from different times or realms. The series combines fantasy adventure and romance, making cooperation essential before the group can face the enemy waiting beyond its immediate surroundings.

Morrigan's Cross begins with sorcerer Hoyt Mac Cionaoith grieving the loss of his twin brother to Lilith's influence. His own magic isn't enough to overcome her, so Morrigan sends him to gather five others. The resulting group includes a witch, a warrior, a scholar, a shapeshifter, and the brother he has lost. Bringing them together is only the first part of the task. They must learn what one another can do and whether trust is possible.

Their differences can help them or divide them.

The story moves across time, putting Hoyt into circumstances far removed from the life he knows. His relationship with witch Glenna develops within that displacement and the shared work of preparing to fight. The supernatural premise makes change dramatic, but the group still faces recognizable questions about authority, grief, and belonging. No one person's skills can replace everyone else's contribution.

Dance of the Gods follows demon hunter Blair Murphy and shapeshifter Larkin. Blair is accustomed to working alone, which makes dependence on a circle difficult. Larkin belongs to Geall, the world toward which the group must travel as preparations continue. His different forms make his abilities visible, but the romance asks Blair to consider the man as well as the useful ally. Their attraction grows while the time available to prepare becomes shorter.

Valley of Silence centers on Moira, the scholarly queen of Geall, and Cian, a vampire whose place within the circle challenges a simple division between kinds of beings. Moira must think about the safety of her people as well as her own feelings. Across the trilogy, love develops under the pressure of a coming war. The personal relationships don't remove the practical need for training, planning, and allies willing to face danger together.

Read Morrigan's Cross, Dance of the Gods, and Valley of Silence in order. Each novel gives a different couple more attention, while the group and its conflict remain continuous. The tone is fantasy romance with vampires, magic, time travel, and a gathering military threat. Readers who like a mixed group of heroes and a shared mission will find that structure here. The circle's challenge is to turn individual gifts and difficult histories into a common strength before Lilith's reach grows further.
