Series background & context

The Dragon Heart Legacy follows Breen Kelly from an uncertain life in Philadelphia into a family history that leads through Ireland to another realm. Talamh is a world of magic, dragons, faeries, and mermaids, but reaching it doesn't instantly give Breen confidence or skill. Across the trilogy, she must discover what her inheritance means and decide how to use it. Her growing relationship with Keegan develops alongside the responsibilities that come with her power.

The Awakening begins with Breen learning that her circumstances aren't what she has been led to believe. A journey to Ireland offers space to ask questions about her past and imagine a different future. The answers take her further than she expected, toward a portal and people connected to her family's hidden life. Crossing between worlds changes the scale of her problems without removing the personal doubts she brought from home.

Keegan carries a different kind of burden. Chosen to protect Talamh and its people, he understands power as a responsibility rather than an escape from ordinary difficulty. His role brings discipline, training, and the need to prepare for threats others may not be ready to face. Breen's arrival gives him someone whose gifts matter to that struggle, but helping her develop them requires patience as well as authority.

Learning magic takes work.

The Becoming continues Breen's effort to understand her identity and train in abilities she hadn't known were hers. Moving between the human world and Talamh means she can't simply replace one life with another and forget the first. Her relationships, loyalties, and ambitions have to find room within the larger danger. The fantasy setting supplies remarkable creatures and possibilities, but the story keeps returning to practice, trust, and a woman learning to believe she can act.

The Choice carries forward the conflict with the dark forces connected to Breen's grandfather. The trilogy's central question becomes more than whether she possesses enough power. She must consider what she is willing to do with it and whom she is prepared to protect. Keegan and the people around her are part of that decision. Romance and friendship provide support, while the threat makes hesitation increasingly costly.

Read The Awakening, The Becoming, and The Choice in order. This is one continuing fantasy story centered on Breen, rather than three largely separate romances with a different lead in each book. The tone combines discovery, training, adventure, and a developing love story. Readers who enjoy an ordinary person finding an extraordinary heritage will recognize that starting point, with a strong emphasis on building confidence through effort. The journey across realms is also a journey toward choosing a life instead of accepting the small one others have defined for her.
