Series background & context

The Campbell Sons books are contemporary romances set in the wider world of Diana Knightley's Scottish characters, but they do not depend on time travel. These are stories about people arriving at a crossroads, often carrying old hurt, and finding a connection with someone who understands more than they expected.

Karrie and the Rock Star opens with Karrie Munro returning home for a funeral. That would be difficult enough, but Finch Mac, the Scottish rock star she once loved, will be there too. Their history is tangled up with betrayal, loss, family, and Finch's young son. The story follows two people who cannot undo the past but have to decide whether forgiveness and a second chance are possible.

The past has a way of showing up at the door.

Blakely and Liam shifts to a small-town setting. Blakely has left a cheating husband and sets out alone on a hike in North Carolina, only to lose her phone and stumble into Liam Campbell's pub. Liam is a former rugby player trying to keep his inherited pub and motel afloat. Both are worn down by life when they meet, and both have practical problems that love alone cannot instantly fix.

The two books share a contemporary tone, Scottish heroes, humor, emotional honesty, and a strong interest in family. The Campbell connections link them, while familiar faces and references give longtime readers a sense that these romances sit near the larger Kaitlyn and Magnus world. Still, each novel has its own central couple and can be read as a standalone.

These are not stories about perfect people making tidy choices. Karrie, Finch, Blakely, and Liam have to deal with anger, trust, money worries, grief, bad decisions, and the uncomfortable fact that moving on is rarely simple. The romantic tension comes from whether they can speak plainly, take responsibility, and make room for someone else in a life that has already become complicated.

Expect a lighter, more modern reading experience than the time-travel series, with emotional stakes that stay close to home. Start with Karrie and the Rock Star for the first Campbell connection, then continue to Blakely and Liam for another small-town romance about rebuilding after betrayal.
