Series background & context

The Calder Academy books spin out of the Crave universe, but the series has its own mood right from the start. The school is not a glamorous paranormal academy. It is where rogue paranormals are sent when they break rules, lose control, or become too dangerous for easier environments. That gives the whole series a rougher edge. Even before the plot kicks in, the setting tells you these students are here because something has already gone wrong.

Sweet Nightmare centers on Clementine, who knows exactly how threatening Calder can be because her mother runs it. She has spent years trying to stay invisible, especially around Jude Abernathy-Lee, until a freak storm traps everyone on the island and starts making nightmares real. The later books widen the focus rather than simply repeating the first setup. Sweet Chaos turns to Mozart and Simon in the aftermath of that disaster, while Sweet Vengeance promises the long-awaited Remy and Izzy story.

What links the books is the mix of romance and danger. The supernatural elements are not decorative. Storms, portals, hidden societies, and unstable powers all matter, and the relationships have to grow under that pressure. If you enjoyed the wider Crave world but wanted a slightly darker school setting with new couples and a more horror-tinged premise, Calder Academy is the natural next stop.
