Series background & context

The Crave series drops readers into Katmere Academy, an elite school in Alaska where the students are not remotely normal and the weather is almost as hostile as the social scene. Grace arrives after the deaths of her parents expecting grief, cold, and awkwardness. She gets all three, plus vampires, witches, dragons, gargoyles, ancient grudges, and the sinking feeling that everyone knows more about her than she does.

At first the books look like a paranormal academy romance, and they absolutely deliver that. There is the dangerous boy, Jaxon Vega. There is the even more complicated brother, Hudson. There are court rivalries, buried histories, supernatural rules, shifting loyalties, and a heroine who keeps discovering that her role in this world is much bigger than anyone warned her. But the series keeps widening from there. What starts as boarding-school tension grows into found family, political struggle, identity questions, and a long war over who gets to define power.

One thing that helps the series stand out is how big the world feels by the middle books. Katmere is only the doorway. Soon the courts, the Circle, the Shadow Realm, and the history behind Grace's own existence all start pressing in. Charm fits a little differently from the others because it fills in the missing months between Crave and Crush, but it still matters emotionally.

If you want high-drama YA paranormal romance with a cold setting, sharp banter, supernatural schools, and relationship chaos on an almost operatic level, this is the Tracy Wolff series most readers start with, and usually keep racing through.
