The Caged Books in Order

The Caged series begins with Lexus Wren, a shy high-school student who has learned to expect the worst from other people. Her father is in prison, her mother is unreliable, and school is a daily exercise in getting through unwanted attention. Then Phoenix and Griffin Easton arrive. The troubled twins are drawn to Lexus almost immediately, even though none of them understands why.

Their connection is not simply a crush.

Touching Lexus causes a startling physical reaction in the boys, and they soon discover that she is a Catalyst, someone with the power to affect Conduits. Phoenix and Griffin are Conduits, and their relationship with Lexus brings them into a hidden world of people with supernatural gifts. The series mixes the normal pressures of being young with the much less normal problem of abilities that can compel, protect, or harm.

The first book, Flightless Bird, is set around Lexus's difficult home and school life, where the arrival of the Easton brothers changes the way she sees herself. Growing Wings moves the trio to Magna Virtus Academy, a school for gifted students. There, Lexus finds people who understand the basic rules of her world, but she also learns that being unusual can make her valuable in ways that are not always safe.

The academy is supposed to be a refuge. It does not stay simple for long.

As the series continues through Taking Flight and Flying Free, Lexus, Phoenix, and Griffin face missing parents, shifting loyalties, dangerous secrets, and the consequences of the power structure around them. Jaxson, first presented as an enemy, becomes an important and complicated part of the larger story. The books build on one another, so this is a series best read in order.

At its heart, The Caged is about a girl who has been told, directly and indirectly, that she is not enough. Becoming a Catalyst does not fix Lexus's self-doubt overnight. It gives her more choices, more people to protect, and more reasons to decide what she wants for herself. The romance is central, but so are friendship, found family, and learning not to let the past define every next step.

Expect teen paranormal romance with magic, suspense, school politics, and an ongoing relationship between Lexus and the boys. The tone is emotional and fast-moving, with cliffhangers and discoveries that carry from one book into the next.
