Series background & context

The Boys of Clermont Bay is Holly Renee in her darker, higher-drama mode. The series drops you into a wealthy beach town where old money runs deep, reputations matter, and a tight circle of boys has been taught to act like the place belongs to them. They are rich, reckless, entitled, and tangled up in family history that keeps bleeding into the present.

The first books, The Touch of a Villain, The Fall of a God, The Taste of an Enemy, and The Deceit of a Devil, set the tone fast. These are romances built on grudges, power games, betrayals, and the kind of attraction people know they should resist but do not. Beck Clermont, Carson Hale, Allie Taylor, Josie Vos, and the rest of the Clermont Bay crowd are not easy people, which is part of the draw. Everyone comes in with baggage, and nobody gets off lightly.

This town does not do simple.

What makes the series work is the way each book focuses on a different couple while still keeping the same social world alive. A side character in one romance becomes the center of the next, so the emotions carry forward. You keep seeing the same parties, friendships, rivalries, and family wounds from new angles. By the time you reach The Seduction of Pretty Lies and The Temptation of Dirty Secrets, the story feels less like a set of separate romances and more like one long mess of loyalty, heartbreak, and hard choices inside the same circle.

The setting matters more than it first seems. Clermont Bay has the shine of privilege, but beneath that shine is a lot of control. Parents cast long shadows. Family names come with debts. Teen and new adult feelings are pushed to extremes because everyone is watching, everyone remembers, and nobody really gets to start clean. That is where the bully romance energy comes from. The pressure is social, personal, and sometimes generational.

These books lean angsty, possessive, and emotionally messy. The heroes can be cruel before they learn better. The heroines push back, hold grudges, and make the boys earn every bit of trust. If you like beach-town glamour mixed with elite-school tension, connected couples, and romances that swing between sharp hurt and big feeling, this is the series to pick up. It is best read in order, because the payoffs land harder when you have watched the whole Clermont Bay world build around them.
