Series background & context

Without Raven Baxter, these books do not have a plot.

Set in the world of the Disney Channel series, the That's So Raven books follow Raven through school problems, family drama, crushes, and schemes that would probably be manageable if she would just leave them alone. But Raven rarely leaves anything alone. She sees a quick vision of what might happen, panics, and starts trying to fix the future before it arrives. That is usually when the real trouble starts.

The supporting cast matters a lot. Chelsea and Eddie bring loyalty, confusion, and comic pushback, while Raven's family keeps the stories grounded in home life. The San Francisco setting gives the books an easy city energy, but the stakes stay close to teen life, friendships, popularity, parents, school events, and those awkward moments that feel enormous when you are that age.

What makes these stories work is the gap between intention and result. Raven usually means well. She is trying to protect a friend, save herself embarrassment, or steer a big moment in the right direction. But her half-seen visions and overconfident plans keep turning normal days into farce.

If you want quick, funny middle grade tie-ins with lots of personality, this series is an easy one to dip into. You can start almost anywhere, because every book begins with a simple problem and lets Raven turn it into something much bigger.
