Author bio

Tara Janzen is the pen name of Glenna McReynolds, a novelist whose work moves easily between romance, danger, history, and the occasional far-flung expedition. Born in Lewiston, Idaho, in 1953, she later studied at Colorado Mountain College and has long made her home in Colorado.

Her publishing career began under the name Glenna McReynolds. Her first novel, South's Honor, appeared in 1987, followed by a run of thirteen Loveswept romances. These early books often mixed strong-willed heroines, Western settings, and the kind of trouble that makes a quiet life impossible.

A few of those titles, including Avenging Angel, Shameless, and Outlaw Carson, established the broad range of her romance writing. Avenging Angel received a RITA Award in 1994, and McReynolds also earned a career achievement award for her romantic adventure work.

She didn't stay in one lane. The Dragon novels, beginning with The Dragon and the Dove, brought fantasy elements into the mix. Her later Chalice books, including The Chalice and the Blade, Dream Stone, and Prince of Time, moved through medieval landscapes, old legends, political struggles, and love stories with high personal stakes.

Then came the Amazon.

In River of Eden, McReynolds sent two scientists deep into the Brazilian rain forest in pursuit of a rare orchid and a dangerous enemy. The novel shows her interest in research-heavy settings, with botany, anthropology, local beliefs, and wilderness survival all folded into a romantic suspense story.

The Tara Janzen name arrived with Crazy Hot in 2005. It opened the Steele Street series, a line of contemporary romantic suspense novels centered on a Denver-based Special Defense Force team. The characters have military and intelligence skills, messy pasts, fast cars, and a habit of finding themselves in missions that become much more personal than planned.

The pace changes fast.

Books such as Crazy Cool, Crazy Wild, Crazy Kisses, and Loose Ends pair a different couple with a new threat, while familiar team members keep the larger story moving. Readers who enjoy romantic suspense tend to come for the mix of undercover work, international danger, second chances, and a close-knit group that has known one another through the worst days of their lives.

Janzen's books have appeared on the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists. Her stories are usually built around people who are capable under pressure but still carrying old grief, old loyalties, or old mistakes. The romantic relationships matter, but so do the friendships, the team history, and the question of whether someone can really leave the past behind.

Colorado remains a natural home base in much of her work, especially the Steele Street novels. From there, her characters head into art-world schemes, jungle missions, covert operations, and old mysteries that refuse to stay buried.
